About Exalto brass cutlass bearings
An Exalto brass cutlass bearing pairs a brass outer shell with a grooved nitrile rubber lining. Like the phenolic and GRP versions it is water-lubricated: water passing through the grooves in the lining lubricates and cools it.
Exalto advises against fitting brass directly into steel or aluminium housings. If your stern tube is steel or aluminium, compare a GRP bearing of the same size where we list one: Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes.
A new shell will not correct a worn or oversized housing. Have the housing bore checked before you order, because changing the shell material does not change the bore it has to fit.
Every brass bearing here is from Exalto's Standard Marine Range, manufactured in the United Kingdom. Each product page gives the nominal shaft, housing bore and length and, where listed, the manufactured bore and outside-diameter tolerances, so you can check the finished bearing against your measurements.
