Cutlass Bearings for a 1-1/4" Shaft
We list 13 Exalto cutlass bearings for a 1-1/4" (31.75 mm) propeller shaft, in phenolic, brass and GRP. They fit five housing bores from 1-1/2" (38.1 mm) to 2-1/8" (53.98 mm), and every one is 5" (127 mm) long. The nominal wall thickness, half the difference between housing bore and shaft, runs from 3.18 mm to 11.11 mm.
Of these, nine are in Australian stock (five phenolic and four GRP), with same-day dispatch on orders placed by 2pm AEST on a business day. You can pre-order the other four, with dispatch estimated at 3 to 4 weeks. Prices run from $220.00 to $295.00 including GST, and Express Post delivery within Australia is free.
A 30 mm (1.181") shaft is only 1.75 mm smaller, but its bearings are a different nominal size and are not interchangeable with these. Check which unit your shaft was made to before ordering, or see the bearings for a 30 mm shaft.

How to choose a bearing for a 1-1/4" shaft
Measure the housing bore and the length of the bearing you are replacing, then find that combination below. Bearings that share a housing bore and length differ in shell material, tolerances and availability.
- 1-1/2" (38.1 mm) housing, 5" (127 mm) long: phenolic IPSF10-2 (in stock, $250.00), brass IBSF10-2 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $295.00), GRP IGSF10-2 (in stock, $220.00)
- 1-5/8" (41.28 mm) housing, 5" (127 mm) long: phenolic IPSF10-1 (in stock, $250.00), GRP IGSF10-1 (in stock, $220.00)
- 1-3/4" (44.45 mm) housing, 5" (127 mm) long: phenolic IPSF10 (in stock, $250.00), brass IBSF10 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $255.00), GRP IGSF10 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $230.00)
- 2" (50.8 mm) housing, 5" (127 mm) long: phenolic IPSF10+2 (in stock, $250.00), brass IBSF10+2 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $295.00), GRP IGSF10+2 (in stock, $230.00)
- 2-1/8" (53.98 mm) housing, 5" (127 mm) long: phenolic IPSF10+3 (in stock, $250.00), GRP IGSF10+3 (in stock, $230.00)
Phenolic, brass and GRP describe the outer shell, and each has a grooved nitrile rubber lining. The non-metallic phenolic shell avoids galvanic corrosion between the shell and a metal housing. Exalto advises against fitting brass directly into steel or aluminium housings. Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes as well as compatible non-metallic housings. More about each: phenolic cutlass bearings, brass cutlass bearings and GRP cutlass bearings.
Matching sizes is the first check, not the last: confirm the shell material, the housing's condition and the retention method for your boat. The measuring guide explains what to record, or contact us with your measurements.
