Cutlass Bearings for a 30 mm Shaft
We list nine Exalto cutlass bearings for a 30 mm (1.181") propeller shaft, in phenolic, rubber, brass and GRP. They fit housing bores of 40 mm (1.575"), 1-3/4" (44.45 mm) and 45 mm (1.772"), in lengths of 100 mm (3.937") and 120 mm (4.724"). The nominal wall thickness, half the difference between housing bore and shaft, runs from 5 mm to 7.5 mm.
Of these, three are in Australian stock (one phenolic and two rubber), with same-day dispatch on orders placed by 2pm AEST on a business day. You can pre-order the other six, with dispatch estimated at 3 to 4 weeks. Prices run from $145.00 (the rubber MRSFF30X40X100) to $410.00 including GST, and Express Post delivery within Australia is free.
Three of these are metric/imperial: the shaft bore and length are metric and the housing diameter is in inches.
A 1-1/8" (28.58 mm) shaft is only 1.43 mm smaller, but its bearings are a different nominal size and are not interchangeable with these. Check which unit your shaft was made to before ordering, or see the bearings for a 1-1/8" shaft.

How to choose a bearing for a 30 mm shaft
Measure the housing bore and the length of the bearing you are replacing, then find that combination below. Bearings that share a housing bore and length differ in shell material, tolerances and availability.
- 40 mm (1.575") housing, 100 mm (3.937") long: rubber MRSFF30X40X100 (in stock, $145.00)
- 40 mm (1.575") housing, 120 mm (4.724") long: phenolic MPSF30X40X120 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $410.00), rubber MRSFF30X40X120 (in stock, $150.00)
- 1-3/4" (44.45 mm) housing, 120 mm (4.724") long: phenolic MIPSF30 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $195.00), brass MIBSF30 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $255.00), GRP MIGSF30 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $240.00)
- 45 mm (1.772") housing, 120 mm (4.724") long: phenolic MPSF30 (in stock, $200.00), brass MBSF30 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $255.00), GRP MGSF30 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $215.00)
Phenolic, brass and GRP describe the outer shell, and each has a grooved nitrile rubber lining. The non-metallic phenolic shell avoids galvanic corrosion between the shell and a metal housing. Exalto advises against fitting brass directly into steel or aluminium housings. Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes as well as compatible non-metallic housings. The rubber bearings have no rigid outer shell and use their own mounting arrangement. More about each: phenolic cutlass bearings, rubber cutlass bearings, brass cutlass bearings and GRP cutlass bearings.
Matching sizes is the first check, not the last: confirm the shell material, the housing's condition and the retention method for your boat. The measuring guide explains what to record, or contact us with your measurements.
