Cutlass Bearings for an 85 mm Shaft
We list three Exalto cutlass bearings for an 85 mm (3.346") propeller shaft, in phenolic, brass and GRP. They fit a 105 mm (4.134") housing bore, and every one is 340 mm (13.386") long. The nominal wall is 10 mm thick: half the difference between housing bore and shaft.
None is in Australian stock today. You can pre-order all three, with dispatch estimated at 3 to 4 weeks. Prices run from $755.00 (the phenolic MPSF85) to $1,565.00 including GST, and Express Post delivery within Australia is free.
The nearest imperial shaft size we list, 3-1/4" (82.55 mm), is 2.45 mm smaller and takes different bearings. Keep the shaft size in the unit it was made to: 85 mm is 3.346", and metric and imperial bearings of a similar size are not interchangeable.

How to choose a bearing for an 85 mm shaft
Measure the housing bore and the length of the bearing you are replacing, then find that combination below. Every bearing here shares one housing bore and length; they differ in shell material, tolerances and availability.
- 105 mm (4.134") housing, 340 mm (13.386") long: phenolic MPSF85 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $755.00), brass MBSF85 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $1,565.00), GRP MGSF85 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $1,050.00)
Phenolic, brass and GRP describe the outer shell, and each has a grooved nitrile rubber lining. The non-metallic phenolic shell avoids galvanic corrosion between the shell and a metal housing. Exalto advises against fitting brass directly into steel or aluminium housings. Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes as well as compatible non-metallic housings. More about each: phenolic cutlass bearings, brass cutlass bearings and GRP cutlass bearings.
Matching sizes is the first check, not the last: confirm the shell material, the housing's condition and the retention method for your boat. The measuring guide explains what to record, or contact us with your measurements.
