CB Cutlass Bearings Australia

Cutlass Bearings for a 70 mm Shaft

We list three Exalto cutlass bearings for a 70 mm (2.756") propeller shaft, in phenolic, brass and GRP. They fit a 90 mm (3.543") housing bore, and every one is 280 mm (11.024") long. The nominal wall is 10 mm thick: half the difference between housing bore and shaft.

None is in Australian stock today. You can pre-order all three, with dispatch estimated at 3 to 4 weeks. Prices run from $450.00 (the phenolic MPSF70) to $890.00 including GST, and Express Post delivery within Australia is free.

A 2-3/4" (69.85 mm) shaft is only 0.15 mm smaller, but its bearings are a different nominal size and are not interchangeable with these. Check which unit your shaft was made to before ordering, or see the bearings for a 2-3/4" shaft.

How to choose a bearing for a 70 mm shaft

Measure the housing bore and the length of the bearing you are replacing, then find that combination below. Every bearing here shares one housing bore and length; they differ in shell material, tolerances and availability.

  • 90 mm (3.543") housing, 280 mm (11.024") long: phenolic MPSF70 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $450.00), brass MBSF70 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $890.00), GRP MGSF70 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $540.00)

Phenolic, brass and GRP describe the outer shell, and each has a grooved nitrile rubber lining. The non-metallic phenolic shell avoids galvanic corrosion between the shell and a metal housing. Exalto advises against fitting brass directly into steel or aluminium housings. Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes as well as compatible non-metallic housings. More about each: phenolic cutlass bearings, brass cutlass bearings and GRP cutlass bearings.

Matching sizes is the first check, not the last: confirm the shell material, the housing's condition and the retention method for your boat. The measuring guide explains what to record, or contact us with your measurements.
