Cutlass Bearings for a 3" Shaft
We list six Exalto cutlass bearings for a 3" (76.2 mm) propeller shaft, in phenolic, brass and GRP. They fit housing bores of 3-3/4" (95.25 mm) and 4" (101.6 mm), and every one is 12" (304.8 mm) long. The nominal wall thickness, half the difference between housing bore and shaft, runs from 9.53 mm to 12.7 mm.
Of these, one is in Australian stock (the phenolic IPSF24), with same-day dispatch on orders placed by 2pm AEST on a business day. You can pre-order the other five, with dispatch estimated at 3 to 4 weeks. Prices run from $630.00 (the GRP IGSF24-2) to $1,395.00 including GST, and Express Post delivery within Australia is free.
A 75 mm (2.953") shaft is only 1.2 mm smaller, but its bearings are a different nominal size and are not interchangeable with these. Check which unit your shaft was made to before ordering, or see the bearings for a 75 mm shaft.

How to choose a bearing for a 3" shaft
Measure the housing bore and the length of the bearing you are replacing, then find that combination below. Bearings that share a housing bore and length differ in shell material, tolerances and availability.
- 3-3/4" (95.25 mm) housing, 12" (304.8 mm) long: phenolic IPSF24-2 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $650.00), brass IBSF24-2 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $1,395.00), GRP IGSF24-2 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $630.00)
- 4" (101.6 mm) housing, 12" (304.8 mm) long: phenolic IPSF24 (in stock, $665.00), brass IBSF24 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $1,295.00), GRP IGSF24 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $825.00)
Phenolic, brass and GRP describe the outer shell, and each has a grooved nitrile rubber lining. The non-metallic phenolic shell avoids galvanic corrosion between the shell and a metal housing. Exalto advises against fitting brass directly into steel or aluminium housings. Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes as well as compatible non-metallic housings. More about each: phenolic cutlass bearings, brass cutlass bearings and GRP cutlass bearings.
Matching sizes is the first check, not the last: confirm the shell material, the housing's condition and the retention method for your boat. The measuring guide explains what to record, or contact us with your measurements.
