CB Cutlass Bearings Australia

Cutlass Bearings for a 3-1/4" Shaft

We list four Exalto cutlass bearings for a 3-1/4" (82.55 mm) propeller shaft, in phenolic and GRP. They fit housing bores of 4" (101.6 mm) and 4-1/4" (107.95 mm), in lengths of 12" (304.8 mm) and 13" (330.2 mm). The nominal wall thickness, half the difference between housing bore and shaft, runs from 9.53 mm to 12.7 mm.

Of these, two are in Australian stock (two phenolic), with same-day dispatch on orders placed by 2pm AEST on a business day. You can pre-order the other two, with dispatch estimated at 3 to 4 weeks. Prices run from $850.00 to $900.00 including GST, and Express Post delivery within Australia is free. The lowest-priced one in stock is the phenolic IPSF26 at $900.00.

The nearest metric shaft size we list, 85 mm (3.346"), is 2.45 mm larger and takes different bearings. Keep the shaft size in the unit it was made to: 3-1/4" is 82.55 mm, and metric and imperial bearings of a similar size are not interchangeable.

How to choose a bearing for a 3-1/4" shaft

Measure the housing bore and the length of the bearing you are replacing, then find that combination below. Bearings that share a housing bore and length differ in shell material, tolerances and availability.

  • 4" (101.6 mm) housing, 12" (304.8 mm) long: GRP IGSF26 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $850.00)
  • 4" (101.6 mm) housing, 13" (330.2 mm) long: phenolic IPSF26 (in stock, $900.00)
  • 4-1/4" (107.95 mm) housing, 13" (330.2 mm) long: phenolic IPSF26+2 (in stock, $900.00), GRP IGSF26+2 (dispatch in 3 to 4 weeks, $850.00)

Phenolic and GRP describe the outer shell, and each has a grooved nitrile rubber lining. The non-metallic phenolic shell avoids galvanic corrosion between the shell and a metal housing. Exalto identifies GRP as suitable for steel and aluminium stern tubes as well as compatible non-metallic housings. More about each: phenolic cutlass bearings and GRP cutlass bearings.

Matching sizes is the first check, not the last: confirm the shell material, the housing's condition and the retention method for your boat. The measuring guide explains what to record, or contact us with your measurements.
